NEWAYGO — Tyler Larios-Mendez had a hat trick as Hart concluded a three-game week Friday evening by blitzing Newaygo, 8-0 in non-conference play on the road.

The Pirates scored early and often against the Lions after Chase Lorenz struck the first blow just 29 seconds into the game after picking the ball off from a Newaygo defender.

Hart scored again just 2:40 later, at the 36:50 mark, when senior striker Larios-Mendez snatched up a through ball from Lorenz.

Adan Cruz found Lorios-Mendez again two minutes later to bump Hart’s lead to 3-0 at the 34:56.

With some younger players coming off the bench to get some valuable playing time, the Pirates didn’t score again for 24 minutes before winning a free kick, as Cruz beat the Lions keeper to the ball and buried a shot with 9:47 remaining in the first half.

The Pirates tallied once more before the break, Adrian Belmares taking a pass from Emmanual Ortega at the top of the penalty area and fired a shot into the back of the net for a 5-0 lead at the break.

Larios-Mendez notched his third goal of the night 10 minutes into the second half. Escamilla converted an assist from Cruz six minutes later and freshman Colton Samuels put in the final goal.

Hart evened its season record at 6-6-0 and the Pirates are scheduled to host Ravenna in a West Michigan Conference game on Monday.

Newaygo dropped to 5-8-1 overall and competes in the Central Activities Athletic Association tournament Wednesday.
