WATERLOO, Iowa – The Muskegon Lumberjacks allowed three unanswered third-period goals on Friday night, resulting in a 6-2 loss to the Waterloo Black Hawks.
The Lumberjacks are now 1-2-3 on the season, good for five points and seventh place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.
Muskegon will continue its long season-opening road swing on Saturday night against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The teams exchanged goals in the opening period as the Jacks opened the scoring with a goal from David Klee at the 3:54 mark, then Waterloo tied it 15:53 into the period from Grady Deering.
The Jacks regained the advantage with a goal from Jake Toll 5:14 into the second period.
The Black Hawks took a 3-2 lead heading into the third period with a pair of goals from Brock Schultz that were just 9 seconds apart.
Waterloo continued the scoring spree into the third period with goals from Ryan Zaremba (6:49), Teddy Townsend (10:35) and Landon Nycz (19:15).
The Black Hawks outshot Muskegon 32-25. Stephen Peck stopped 26-of-31 shots in net for the Lumberjacks.
