HART – The Hart girls’ basketball team put away North Muskegon, 53-24, in a WMC-Rivers game on Thursday evening.

The Pirates’ defense set the tone early with eight steals and several forced turnovers in the first quarter, helping them lead 24-4 after the first quarter.

The Pirates kept up the pressure on both ends of the court and extended their lead to 40-9 at the half.

“Early in the game, I felt the girls did a nice job executing our game plan,” said Hart coach Travis Rosema. “Our effort on the defense really stood out during the first half.”

The Norse had a 15-13 scoring advantage over the last two quarters.

Addi Hovey led the Pirates with 15 points, eight rebounds, six steals, three assists and a block. Leah Walker added nine points, nine rebounds, one steal and a block, while Reese Smith had eight points, five steals and three rebounds.

“It’s always great to win conference games,” said Rosema. “I was pleased with how well we played in the first half, we lost a little focus in the second half, but overall, it was a great night.”

Hart (5-1, 2-0) hosts Mason County Central on Friday, Jan. 3 for a league game.

North Muskegon (3-2, 1-2) will be at home against Fruitport on Saturday, Dec. 28.
