NEWAYGO – The Montague boys basketball team led from start to finish to capture its second victory of the season on Tuesday evening.

The Wildcats led 44-24 after the first two quarters and went on to down Newaygo, 71-42.

“No secret that we had a rough start to the season and his week we had those difficult discussions as a team,” said Montague coach Nick Thaler. “I felt we were not playing tough enough and letting everyone impose their will onto us. That’s not how we do things and this is exactly the response I was looking for.”

Courtland Schneider led the Wildcats with 21 points. Cole Herremans scored 13 points and Kellan Francis threw in 11 points.

The Lions’ Blake Sanborn led the way with 10 points. Hunter Yearsovich added seven points and Isaiah Miedema had eight points.

Montague (2-7, 1-3) visits Manistee on Friday for a WMC-Lakes game.

Newaygo (4-4, 2-1) will be at Big Rapids for CSAA-Red play on Friday.
