CUSTER – Sometimes, you just have to get tough, and that’s just what the Mason County Eastern girls basketball team did in Friday night’s home game with Baldwin.
Crashing the boards and playing air tight defense, the Cardinals dominated the Panthers for a 53-31 West Michigan D League win.
The Cardinals aggressive style was especially effective in the first half as they established command and opened a nine-point lead, 23-14 at the half.
Eastern then outscored Baldwin, 30-17 in the second half.
Eastern’s Lucy Shoup scorched the Panther defense for a game-high 22 points, 13 of which came in the first half.
The Cardinals improved to 10-5 on the season and 7-4 in the league. Eastern travels to Marion for another league game on Wednesday.
