The game was played at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium, the Jayhawks’ home court.
Muskegon CC got off to a strong start and led by double digits at the half. The Jayhawk defense limited the Firebirds to 27 percent shooting from the field and 15 percent from beyond the 3-point line. The defense of Kevon Washington was stellar as he held the Firebirds’ leading scorer to no points.
Sophomore Will Chye led the Jayhawks with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists. Washington also was a bright spot on offense with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen Ny’Zhem Marshall and Lamarkis Graham each scored 11 points.
MCC (11-9, 4-2) will host Delta College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
