NORTON SHORES – The Western Michigan Christian Warriors started off the 2025 varsity baseball season with a doubleheader sweep of Zion Christian on Friday afternoon. 

The Warriors blanked the Mountaineers 10-0 in the opening game, and took game two 7-2.

WMC ace Max Miller pitched a complete game two-hit shutout in game one and struck out six.  

The Warriors’ offense was led by senior Alex Wagenmaker with two hits, a run scored, one double and four RBIs. Nathan Clausing also had a great game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and three RBIs. Max Miller scored three runs, had a double and walked twice, while senior Luke Maat scored three runs, had a hit, walked three times and stole two bases. 

Quint Menefee went 1-for-3 with an RBI and captain Will Liggett produced a hit, a run and a stolen base. Jack Sipe drove in a run, walked twice and scored a run of his own.

Carson Reed got his first varsity start on the mound in game two and nabbed the victory, going four innings and striking out five batters. 

Menefee went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Caleb McKay also went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored. Wagenmaker’s bat stayed hot in game two, going 1-for-2 with another RBI, and Sipe had an RBI, drew a base on balls and scored a run.  

Nathan Clausing had one hit with two walks and Caleb Clausing also drew a walk. Reed scored a run and drew a walk, while Levi Leffring and Noa Wyderveld combined for three runs and two bases on balls.  

“I was very pleased with the two great pitching performances and the outstanding defense in both games,” WMC coach Darin Waller said.  “We had clutch hitting by the middle of the lineup and good base-running by our speedsters.”  

Western Michigan Christian will face Unity Christian in a doubleheader away next Monday.
