Mason County Central baseball team sweeps a pair from Shelby

SHELBY–Mason County Central swept a baseball doubleheader over Shelby on Tuesday.

The Spartans took the opener 8-4 behind a strong pitching performance by Will Chye. Peyton Merz, Brady Anes and Simon Shimel led the Mason County Central hitting attack.

Eli Kelley and Trey Waller each had RBI for Shelby.

The Spartans won the nightcap 3-1 as Shimel and freshman Danien Garcia hooked up in a pitchers’ dual. Shimel struck out 12 while Garcia struck out five and didn’t allow a walk.

Chye led the Spartans with two hits.

Garcia had an RBI single for Shelby.
