MORLEY – The Hart baseball team cruised its way to a championship victory at Morely Stanwood’s Mohawk Classic on Saturday.
The Pirates used stellar pitching to shut out Fremont, 4-0, in the opener and then blew by Morley Stanwood in a 13-2 win.
Ty Schlukebir gave up just one hit and struck out 12 batters against Fremont.
Fremont’s Owen Vanderstelt allowed two hits, a run and struck out four batters in the loss.
At the plate for Hart, Avery Guikema had two doubles and an RBI while Brendan Hiddema added an RBI single. Schlukebir had a double.
The Pirates belted out 10 runs in the bottom of the first against Morley Stanwood and never looked back.
Guikema allowed five hits and struck out 10 batters for Hart.
Hart’s Schlukebir added to his solid day with four hits and four RBI on offense. Boos added three hits while Kevin Gray had two hits and an RBI. Logan Jorissen collected a pair of hits.
Hollis Rockwell and Joseph Osorio each had a hit and two RBI while Aiden Coker and Hiddema each had a hit.
Fremont was edged out by host Morley Stanwood, 5-3. Collin Truslot gave up two runs and struck out six batters.
Deagan Klimek, Seth Zerlaut and Mason Sparks each had a hit and a run for Fremont. Chase Mercer, Brenden Dirks and Blake Zerlaut each added a hit.
Hart will be at Ravenna on Wednesday while Fremont hosts Oakridge on Tuesday.
