Mason Eastern had won its first three league games before Friday night.
Eastern kept the game close through the first three quarters, but the Panthers pulled the rug from under their feet in the fourth.
“Mental lapses caught up to us n the end,” said Eastern coach Austin Boundy. “Even when we were down big with three minutes left, everybody played hard until the buzzer. Even though we have to be mentally sharper, I’m proud of the late-game effort.”
The Cardinals trailed by nine, 16-7 after the first quarter and was outscored by five, 17-12, in the second for a 33-19 at the half. Baldwin outscored the Cardinals, 33-16 in the second half.
Milo Shoup finished the game with 15 points to lead the Cardinals, and Josh Rodgers contributed 11.
Eastern falls to 3-5, 3-1 in the WMD and hosts White Cloud on Monday in non-league action.
