The Hesperia boy’s basketball team used a nine-point first quarter advantage to hang on for a 51-47 victory over neighborhood rival Holton Friday in CSAA Silver Division action.
The Panthers led 18-9 after the first quarter. Holton had a 16-12 edge in the second quarter and only trailed by five, 30-25, at halftime.
Holton had a 22-21 edge in the second half, but fell just short.
Hesperia improved to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference. Holton fell to 2-12 and 1-8.
The Panthers were led by Jake Palmer with 19 points, while Mark Workman and Traxton Gordon each added 13 points.
