The Hesperia football team opened the season on the right foot with a 59-0 win over Montabella on Thursday.
The Panthers, who were undefeated during the regular season last year, jumped out to a 19-0 lead after one quarter and never let up.
Hesperia dominated on the ground, throwing just two passes the entire game. Gerrit Yates led the way with 171 yards and four touchdowns. Kanin Witte chipped in 104 rushing yards.
Quarterback Brendan McAree completed just one pass, but it was a 24-yard touchdown to Tanner Goins.
Scott Peters led Hesperia with 11 tackles, while Gage Balkema had eight, along with a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown.
