Muskegon Catholic Central’s baseball team sure has had an unique season for playing in big ball parks.
First the Crusaders played at Comerica Park, the home of the Detroit Tigers. And now this past Friday, MCC traveled to 5th 3rd Ball Park to play Grand Rapids West Catholic in front of nearly a thousand fans.
The No. 1 Div. 4 ranked Crusaders walked away with a 9-8 win in Game 1 and finished the nightcap tied 1-1.
Nick Holt led on the mound in Game 1 for MCC, giving up three runs through five innings. Holt and Alex Lewandoski both posted three hits in the win.
Grand Rapids West Catholic, who is ranked fourth in Div. 3, nearly stole Game 1 from MCC with five runs in the seventh. MCC third baseman Dom Woodard snagged a ground ball with the bases loaded and tagged out the West runner advancing to third to end the game.
Game 2 ended in a tie after five innings played. MCC’s Woodard had a pair of hits and Holt drove in the lone run on an RBI single.
