Seven local high school wrestlers won weight class championships on Saturday at various individual regional tournaments.

The seven regional champions, along with 37 other local wrestlers, qualified to compete in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Individual State Finals on March 2-3 at Detroit’s Ford Field.

Hart, which competed in the Division 3 regionals, had the biggest day with three individual champions.

Robbie Altland (103) continued his dominating 48-0 season, going 3-0 on the day. Noah Cantu (119) is now 47-0 this season after winning his title bout on a 6-3 decision. Jacob Bosley (112) also captured first place for the Pirates, winning his title match on a 3-0 decision.

Fremont (Division 3)  had two wrestlers take home titles. Cade Breuker (140) won his championship match with a pin at 1:52. Cody Routley (103) won his title match with a 5-2 decision.

Kent City’s Whyatt Ellicott (160) secured his first-place finish in Division 3 with a pin at 1:41 in the finals.

Matt Lipka (140), now 46-1 on the season for Montague (Division 3), defeating Shelby’s Nick Felt in the regional finals with a pin at 4:00.

Whitehall’s Allen Powers (189) won his weight class with a 3-1 decision in the Division 3 finals.

Grant’s Jagarr Jenerou (135) topped Kent City’s Evan Jones in Division 3 with an 8-1 decision to win the title.

Zach Young (160), who is now 47-0 on the season for Hesperia (Division 4), captured his championship match with an 11-4 decision.

Other state final qualifiers

Division 1

GRAND HAVEN – Daniel Guillen (130) finished second and Cody Miller (125) took fourth.

MONA SHORES – Josh Hill (189) secured a third-place finish and Tristan Robbins (160) finished fourth.

Division 2

REETHS-PUFFER – Brett Thomas (215) led the Rockets with a second-place finish in his weight class, Hunter McCall (189) took third place while Kayden Cilla (152), Gerrit Andrus (171) and Jacob Blawat (112) all took fourth place.

FRUITPORT – Zachary Sykes (112) was the lone Trojan wrestler to qualify for the state finals with a third place finish.

GRANT – James Montney (152) took second place and Kalub Bonter (152) took third place.

Division 3

KENT CITY – Carlos Diaz (130) and Evan Jones (135) both finished second on the day.

FREMONT – Parker Dalson (145) finished in second place and Matthew Halasinski (130) took third.

NEWAYGO- Makiah McCracken (145) finished fourth.

ORCHARD VIEW – Brendan Hyatt (119) ended in third place while Tommy Shawl (152) and Alex Cantu (112) each took fourth place.

HOLTON – Christian Brooks (189) finished in second place for the Red Devils.

WHITEHALL – Derek McCollom (160) finished second while Tom Balakovitz (135), Trenton Blanchard (145) and Kayleb Venema (171) each took third place for the Vikings.

SHELBY – Nick Felt (140) finished second.

HART – John Guadarrama (189) took fourth.

Division 4

HESPERIA – Gerrit Yates (152) finished second, Robin Klaus (125) and Mack Baird (119) each took third while Trenton Gleason (145) and Jeremiah Hasty (160) secured fourth place finishes.

RAVENNA – Devon Forner (160) and Alex Straub (189) both had third place finishes while Kevin Spoelman (130), Matthew Hutson (171) and Dane Denhof (189) each qualified for the state finals with fourth place finishes.

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL – Alex Trim (285) finished second and will be the lone wrestler to represent the Spartans in the finals.
