Two 16-win squads, Mona Shores and Jenison, squared off Tuesday night in a Division 1 boys soccer district quarterfinal match.

It was the Mona Shores Sailors improving to 17 wins with the 1-0 victory over the Wildcats.

The Sailors’ Jake Carlson, assisted by Kenny Olsen, sliced and diced through the Jenison defense to tally the match’s lone goal.

With the win, Sailor goalkeeper Joey Wolffis stretched his school record shutout total to 14, turning back 11 shots in the victory.

Mona Shores, which improved to 17-1-1 overall, finished with eight shots on goal.

The Sailors advance to Thursday’s semifinal match against West Ottawa, which defeated Wyoming 2-1. That match, which will be played at Grand Haven, is slated to start at 7 p.m.
