Vanessa Eekhoff sparks late charge as Western Michigan Christian slips past Covenant Christian in girls basketball

Western Michigan Christian senior Vanessa Eekhoff picked a fine time to make her presence felt on Thursday night.

Eekhoff scored all 13 of her points in the final 5:10 of the game and led the Warriors to a 44-41 River Valley Conference victory over GR Covenant Christian. Covenant led the game for most of the night.

Eekhoff was in foul trouble all night long and that limited her minutes against the Chargers.

Rachel Bruinsma added 11 points, 13 rebounds, eight steals and five blocks. Senior guard Julie Merz had six points, eight assists and eight steals. Alyssa Wright added eight points.

Arika Engelsma led Covenant with 18 points and six rebounds. Holly Hunderman added 10 points and eight rebounds.
