Spring Lake duo too much for Fruitport girls’ basketball team

The lethal one-two punch of Spring Lake’s Jewel Wiersma and Kelsee Zuidema proved to be too much for the Fruitport girls’ basketball team Friday night.

Wiersma and Zuidema combined for 28 points to lead the Lakers to a 35-26 Lakes 8 victory against the host Trojans.

Wiersma finished with 16 points, including 8-of-14 from the free-throw line and Zuidema added 12 points.

Fruitport won the first meeting between the two schools 42-32.

Francesca Cerniglia scored eight points for Fruitport and Jessica Erny drilled a pair of 3-pointers for six points.
