Nic Ellingboe tallied two goals and lifted his Spring Lake team to a 2-0 win over Orchard View. The physical game was played with three yellow cards going to Spring Lake and one to Orchard View.

The Lakers (4-2-1, 2-0) grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the first half on an unassisted goal from Ellingboe. Five minutes later the senior Ellingboe struck again, this time on an assist from Joshua Roberge.

The two teams played each other even with both teams getting six shots on goal.

“I wish we would have finished a few more chances up top but it was really good,” said Spring Lake coach Jeremy Thelen. “I’m really proud of our defense and the work they did in the back. We had to concentrate right down to the final minutes to keep the ball out of the net.”

The Cardinals had their chances down the stretch with several opportunities in front of the Lakers’ net. But Spring Lake goalie Joseph Czajka and defender Ben Kramer were able to stave off the attacks and held the shutout.

Orchard View goalie Dakota Smith collied with a Laker player just before halftime and was unable to return.

“Spring Lake’s an awesome team,” said Orchard View coach Kyle Skodack. “They’re fast to the ball and know what to do with it and they really go hard.”
