GRAND RAPIDS — Tyree Jackson showed why he’s a top area quarterback and leader on the Mona Shores football field.

Jackson compiled 233 yards passing including touchdown passes of 34, 15 and 11 yards against Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills on Friday. The junior QB also rushed for 87 yards with a 1-yard scoring run.

Mona Shores turned the table from last year’s loss to Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills to a 28-14 win.

The Sailors didn’t waste time as they jumped out 14-0 after the first quarter. Mona Shores added another score in the second to take a 21-7 halftime lead.

Asantay Brown again proved he is a top recruit around the area making eight catches for 164 yards receiving. Brown also completed a 15-yard touchdown reception along with a pair of 36-yard gains. On defense brown finished with four tackles and four assists.

Mona Shores offense more than doubled up on the Knights, getting 455 total yards with 222 arriving on the ground. Kenowa Hills was held to 210 total yards with 134 on the ground.

Sophomore receiver Hunter Broersma contributed to the Sailors’ offense with a 34-yard touchdown catch. He also gained 30 yards on the ground off four rushing attempts.

Senior receiver Logan Smith had a pair of 11-yard catches that included an 11-yard touchdown strike from Jackson.

Dominic Shermeta had 52 yards rushing on six attempts and Marquon Sargent had 44 yards on seven attempts and had a 13-yard catch.

Defensively, Mona Shores was led by Cody Schneider and Shermeta. The two each had six tackles and three assists.

Matt Rose had four tackles and Sargent had an interception.
