MUSKEGON – Last Thursday, the Muskegon Big Red girls basketball team scored the 10-point win over a very good Oakridge squad in the opening night of the annual Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame girls hoops classic.
But the conclusion of the tournament was canceled due to inclement weather, and no one was really sure how long people would need to wait to see if the Big Reds could repeat their success, this time over Spring Lake.
Nobody would need to wait all that long.
Tournament officials rescheduled the games to tonight, and Muskegon took advantage of the short delay, blowing out the Lakers 64-35 to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Spring Lake fell to 2-3 overall.
From the start it was clear Muskegon wouldn’t be denied, claiming the 17-7 lead after one and the 33-18 advantage at the break.
The Big Reds posted a 22-8 run over the Lakers in the third to put away the game.
Muskegon senior guard Janiece Levelston led all scorers with 16 points, also collecting five steals and dishing out five assists in the win, while senior guard Keirra Guy finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and senior Valencer Jones added nine points in the win.
Big Red senior Raven Moore had eight points, seven assists and five assists, and Jade Page had eight points and a game-high eight boards.
