The undefeated Shelby boys basketball team narrowly escaped with a 48-45 victory Tuesday over North Muskegon in West Michigan Conference play.
The Norse trailed for most of the game, then clawed back to within one point with 30 seconds to go. Shelby hit a pair of free throws to go up by three, and North Muskegon was unable to hit a bucket to force a tie.
Jeff Beckman had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers while Michael James had 10 points and seven rebounds. Caleb Anderson added eight points and eight assists for Shelby.
Marco Visconti paced North Muskegon with 13 points and six boards. Erick Bleakely added eight points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Shelby improved to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference. North Muskegon fell to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the league.
