Detroit’s Shane Greene took the loss, pitching five and two thirds innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.
Athletics’ pitcher Jesse Hahn pitched his first career complete game shutout, giving up just four singles.
Detroit will look to even the series late Tuesday night against the Oakland Athletics.
