That mark has gained national notice, with the Jayhawks ranked 21st in the country in the first National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll.

MCC demonstrated why it deserves that lofty ranking by defeating the Alma College JV squad 92-83 earlier this week. It was the Jayhawks’ sixth game in the past 14 days.

MCC led by as many as 12 points in the first half before Alma rallied and cut its deficit to four at halftime, 46-42.

Alma started hitting 3-pointers in the second half and surged ahead by 10 points with about 10 minutes left in the game. The the Jayhawks got hot, with Eddie Tornes hitting six buckets over the next four minutes, and took control of the contest.

Tornes finished with 29 points, Will Roberson recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists and Marcus Tumblin added 21 points.
