The Kent City softball team improved its conference record to 8-4 with a doubleheader sweep of Hesperia on Tuesday.
In Game 1, Kent City scored three in the third inning and two in the fourth and took a 5-4 lead. Kelsey Krueger drove in all three runs in the third with a bases loaded double. In the 4th, Blaire Mortensen doubled in a run, then Maggie Maksymowski drove her home with a single. The offense added an insurance run in the seventh as Autumn O’Keefe doubled in Sarah Meek.
Game 2 was a thriller with Hesperia tying the score three separate times and forcing extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Meek doubled to left-center. Kassidy Heeringa singled her over to third, then alertly got herself in a pickle, allowing Meek to score. Autumn O’Keefe singled, then was tripled home by Krueger, giving Kent City its winning margin.
