The Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team shook off the rust from a long layoff and grabbed an 82-68 win over Delta College on Tuesday.

The Jayhawks led 15-10 about 10 minutes into the game, then took control by opening their advantage to 21 points at halftime.

MCC helped itself by hitting eight 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes of the first half.

All five Jayhawks starters scored in double figures.

Daryl Kirkland led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds. Michael Williams added 16 points and nine rebounds, Kyle Ervin Jr. had 14 points and 14 rebounds, Sergio Diaz chipped in 13 points and Ricarri Stimage had 10.

“It’s nice to be able to get a quality W going into the break that we can build on going into conference play,” said MCC Coach Dave Schlump.

The Jayhawks, now 6-3 on the season, will hit the court again after the holiday break when they host Grand Rapids Community College on Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
