The West Michigan Whitecaps recorded their 17th shutout of the season on Wednesday night in a 2-0 victory over Cedar Rapids.

West Michigan is 14-5 in the second half and 59-27 overall on the season.

The Whitecaps took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an Austin Athmann RBI single that scored Danny Woodrow.

That 1-0 score held until the sixth inning, when Zac Shepherd hit an RBI double to score Cole Bauml to give West Michigan a 2-0 lead it wouldn’t surrender.

Starting pitcher Eudis Idrogo picked up his fourth win of the season, tossing seven innings of shutout baseball. Idrogo surrendered only three hits while striking out seven.

Reliever Eduardo Jimenez picked up his fourth save of the season, tossing a scoreless two innings while surrendering one hit and striking out four.

West Michigan will continue its series with Cedar Rapids at home on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
