The Muskegon Community College volleyball  team took state runner-up honors at the Michigan Community College Athletic Association state tournament in Grand Rapids on Saturday.

The Jayhawks battled Grand Rapids Community College in the finals but fell in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-15).

The MCCAA event includes the top two teams from the Eastern Conference and Western Conference to battle it out for state supremacy.

MCC (23-15) defeated Mott Community College in a five-set battle (25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-11) in the semifinals.

Leading the Jayhawks on the day were Robbie Berg with 34 kills and 27 digs while Julie Brown had 16 kills and eight blocks. Delaney Bennett added 21 kills for MCC.

Katie Veihl totaled 70 assists and also had five blocks while Shelby Rasch and Haley Gartland each had three aces.
