The West Michigan Whitecaps opened up the second half of the Midwest League season on Friday with two losses to Lake County which included being no-hit in the second game.

The Whitecaps lost 9-4 in Game 1 on Friday before falling 4-0 and being no-hit in the nightcap.

In Game 1, the Whitecaps took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Vinny Esposito hit a solo home run to lead off the game.

In the second inning, Sam McMillian scored on a wild pitch and Esposito doubled home Andre Lipcius to give the Whitecaps a 3-0 lead.

In the home half of the second inning, Lake County scored two runs to cut the Whitecaps lead to 3-2.

Hector Martinez hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to increase the West Michigan lead to 4-2.

The lead didn’t last as Lake County scored seven runs in the fourth inning, making the score 9-4 which was ultimately the final.

In Game 2, Lake County scored one run in the third and fourth innings and two runs in the sixth inning.

Lake County pitchers Eli Lingos and Luis Araujo combined to no-hit the Whitecaps over seven innings of work.

The Whitecaps will continue their series in Lake County on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
