The Muskegon boys basketball team suffered a rare loss on Saturday, falling to Grand Blanc in a non-conference matchup, 54-51.

The Big Reds led 11-7 after one quarter, trailed 22-18 at halftime, then fell behind 43-30 heading into the fourth, after Grand Blanc outscored them 21-12 in a rough third quarter.

Muskegon rallied late, with a 21-11 edge in the final quarter, but it wasn’t quite enough.

Vern Nash paced the Big Reds with 23 points, including five triples. Standout Jarvis Walker was held to just nine points for Muskegon, bug snagged eight rebounds.

Kevin Rice led a balanced Grand Blanc attack with 14 points.

The Big Reds are now 11-2 on the season.

FRIDAY

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE BOYS

NORTH MUSKEGON 45, WHITEHALL 40 – The Norse trailed 24-18 at halftime and 34-33 after three quarters, then stole the conference win a 12-6 advantage in the fourth.

Eric Rypstra paced North Muskegon with 18 points while John Hayhurst tossed in nine.

Andrew Durbin had 11 points for Whitehall, Addison Bluhn scored 10 and Alfred McGlothlin had nine points and seven rebounds.

North Muskegon is now 9-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play. Whitehall is 5-8 and 4-6.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE GIRLS

RAVENNA 43, NORTH MUSKEGON 38 – North Muskegon led 20-14 at halftime, but Ravenna rallied for the win with a 29-18 advantage in the second half.

Haley Lemkie led Ravenna with 15 points, Delaney Mabrito snagged 14 rebounds and Ana Postema grabbed eight boards. Chandler Falkowski paced North Muskegon with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
