Senior quarterback Drew Collins threw four touchdown passes to lead undefeated Montague to a 63-0 rout of Shelby on Friday in West Michigan Conference football.
Sam Smith opened the scoring for Montague in the first quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run. Andrew Kooi converted the ensuing PAT to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
Later in the quarter Kooi caught a 29-yard TD pass from Collins t0 make the score 14-0.
On the next Wildcat possession, Tugg Nichols caught a 10-yard scoring pass from Collins, putting Montague went 21-0.
Smith scored on an 18-yard run before the end of the first quarter, giving the Wildcats a comfortable 28-0 lead heading into the second.
Montague kept piling it on in the second quarter, with Collins finding Kooi for a 51-yard scoring strike, Owen Peterson catching a 33-yard touchdown pass, and Zack Nelson scoring on runs of 17 and 37 yards to give Montague a 56-0 lead at halftime.
Kooi finished off the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run in the second half.
Collins converted 11 of 17 passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns. Nelson was the leading rusher with 64 yards on five attempts with two touchdowns, while Smith had 55 yards on six carries and two TDs.
Kooi finished with four catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Nichols had five receptions for 62 yards and a score.
Defensively, Trey Mikkelsen led the Wildcats with six tackles, two of them for a loss. Rodney Brassfield Jr. finished the evening with five tackles, while Aaron Rolf had four.
The Wildcats, now 4-0 overall and in conference play, will face Whitehall next week in a showdown for the top spot in the West Michigan Conference.
The Tigers, now 0-4, will meet up with archrival Hart next week.
