The Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team battled Thursday night, but lost a heartbreaker in overtime against Zeeland East.

Zeeland East led for much of the game, holding a 10-9 lead after one quarter, a 24-19 lead at halftime and a 35-30 lead after three quarters.

The Rockets battled back in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 48-48 at the end of regulation. The Chix outscored the Rockets 11-5 in the extra session to take home the win.

Sophia Hekkema led Reeths-Puffer with 15 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Ariel Walker added 13 points and Arionna Williams scored nine.

The loss sends Puffer to 2-5 overall and in the O-K Green Conference.

O-K GREEN

MONA SHORES 48, ZEELAND WEST 22 — Mona Shores picked up an O-K Green Conference win over Zeeland West on Thursday to continue their hot start to the season.

The Sailors controlled the game throughout, leading 10-4 after the first quarter before going on a huge run in the second quarter to take a halftime lead of 28-8. Mona Shores cruised to the win with a 20-14 edge in the second half. 

The leading scorer for Mona Shores was Olivia Sobczak with 13 points, while Brooke LeRoux followed with 11. Riley Rosenthal and Bri Wade each contributed six points

Mona Shores improves to 9-1 overall and in the O-K Green.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

OAKRIDGE 53, NORTH MUSKEGON 42 — The Eagles dominated the fourth quarter to pull away in a tight battle with the Norse Thursday.

Oakridge led just 12-10 after the first quarter, 22-20 at halftime and 30-28 after three quarters. The Eagles closed out strong, however, with a 23-14 edge in the fourth.

Kyla Steward led the Eagles with 17 points. Leah Lowry added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists while Gena Lundquist totaled eight points, seven rebounds and two steals.

North Muskegon was led by Syann Fairfield with 15 points, followed by Natalie Pannucci with 10. 

Oakridge improves to 3-6 overall and 2-6 in the West Michigan Conference, while North Muskegon falls to 2-6 overall and 1-6 in the conference. 

HART 61, RAVENNA 38 — The Pirates picked up a big win over West Michigan Conference rival Ravenna on Thursday.

Hart controlled the momentum from the opening tip, holding the Bulldogs to just two points in the first quarter while scoring 19 of their own. The Pirates led 34-15 at halftime and 50-27 heading to the fourth. 

Jayd Hovey led Hart with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. Marianna VanAgtmael and Morgan Marvin each had 10 points, while Marvin also contributed with five steals.

For Ravenna, Madi Kilborne led the scoring with nine points followed by Emma Gillard with six.

The victory puts Hart at 8-3 overall with a conference record of 7-2, while Ravenna drops to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the WMC.
