The return Danil Gushchin from injury has certainly helped the Muskegon Lumberjacks of late.

Gushchin recorded a three-goal hat trick along with an assist 13 days ago in the last Lumberjacks contest, which resulted in a 7-5 victory over Chicago.

He continued his offensive tear, scoring two goals which included a game-winning overtime tally that lifted the Lumberjacks to a 3-2 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday night from the Resch Center in Wisconsin.

Muskegon has now won two straight game and is now 23-12-3 on the season, good for 49 points and third place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

The Lumberjacks are two points behind Green Bay for second place and will look to catch them tomorrow in a rematch. Faceoff is slated for 8:05 p.m.

Gushchin opened the scoring with a tally 5:08 into the opening period.

Muskegon led 1-0 after the first period.

The Gamblers tied the game 1-1 with a goal from Xan Gurney at the 5:11 mark of the second period.

The Lumberjacks regained the lead with a goal by Bradley Marek 3:40 into the third period.

Green Bay tied the game 2-2 on a goal from Matt DeBoer 10:54 into the third period.

Gushchin quickly sealed the victory with the game-winning goal 1:54 into the extra stanza.

Both teams recorded 31 shots on goal as Lumberjack goaltender Jan Skorpik stopped 29-of-31 shots on goal.
