Muskegon Community College women’s soccer season takes off quick with pair of wins

The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks got their season off to a fast start with a pair of victories over the weekend.

The Jayhawks, ranked No. 13 in the nation, defeated visiting Lakeland 7-0 on Saturday then traveled to St. Clair County on Sunday. MCC won that game, 6-1.

Against Lakeland, goal scorers were Sammy Hecht (Zeeland West), Payton McKellar (Byron Center), Emma Dykema (Reeths-Puffer), Sarah Zielinski (Fruitport), Iris Herald (Reeths-Puffer), Alexa Musk (Mona Shores) on a penalty kick and Kendall Jones. Ibbi Fettig (Cedar Springs) and Tara McGrath (Orchard View) combined for the shutout in net.

The Jayhawks offense was solid again on Sunday against St. Clair County.

Taylor Noble scored two goals while Musk, Nora Brown, McKellar and Audrey Lepper chipped in single goals.

Next up for the Jayhawks is a Saturday trip to Jackson to take on the Jets. Gametime is noon.
