CUSTER –Mason County Eastern’s boys basketball team rolled to an 85-37 win over Walkerville in a Western Michigan D League game Thursday night in Custer.

It was the season and league opener for both the Cardinals and Wildcats.  

Eastern got off to a strong start, opening up a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals took a 50-19 lead at halftime, and it was 73-30 after three.  

Leading the Cardinals was Eli Shoup with 26 points, followed by Clay Shoup with 23 and Wyatt Crawford scored 21 points and had nine assists.  

“They are a young team,” Eastern head coach Mark Forner said of the Wildcats.

“They are a well-coached team, but we’re a little older. We didn’t turn the ball over.”  

Fisher Brondstetter led the Wildcats with 15 points and Collin Chase added 13.  

MCE is at home against Bear Lake and Walkerville hosts Pentwater in a pair of WMD games Tuesday.
