Using a strong start, the Shelby boys basketball team held its lead over Oakridge for a 56-46 win on Thursday in a West Michigan Conference meeting.

The Tigers came out swinging, taking advantage of a sluggish start for the Eagles going up 26-17 by halftime.

Oakridge tried to warm up but putting up 29 points in the second half it wasn’t enough to crack the Tigers.

Leading the way for the Tigers Joe Hayes racked up 28 points while Bishop Lee and Wyatt Dickman added nine points and eight points respectively.

Oakridge’s Garrett Wever performed well in the loss with 22 points while Ethan Jozsa offered up nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Shelby improves to 2-1 and will play host to Manistee on Tuesday.

Oakridge drops to 2-2 and will take the court again Monday for the Holiday Showcase at Cornerstone University to face GR West Catholic.
