LUDINGTON — “It was nice to have a meet again after a few days off due to sickness and a canceled meet last week,” said Ludington swim coach Joe Schneider.

The Orioles swam against Manistee on Monday, Feb. 1 and perhaps because of the time off they didn’t fare well, losing to the Chippewas, 97-72.

Despite the loss, Schneider was pleased with how well the boys did in the pool as everybody either swam about the same, dropped some time or gained a title.

Some of the highlights of the meet for the Orioles included Rowan Varra who picked up a first place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.92. Evan Bennett also was first in the diving competition with a total of 261.05 points. Gavin Smith won the 500-yard freestyle in 6:05.10.

Lucas Miller finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:13.77. Also placing second was Hayden Madl in the 100-yard freestyle in 55 seconds.

Second places also came from Hayden Madl, Lucas Peterson, Kyle Wendt and Bennett in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of 1:14.06.

Madl took a second place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.93 while Peterson finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
