The Muskegon Lumberjacks couldn’t find a break in their 8-4 loss to Team USA on Saturday.

The Jacks fell behind early with a 2-0 deficit after the first period, but looked like they were putting together a rebound in the second.

Muskegon scored a pair of goals from Joey Larson and Owen Mehlenbacher to tie the score, 2-2 midway through the second period.

Team USA responded with a pair of goals and Muskegon was again down by two, 4-2.

Jacob Guevin added a third goal to close the second period, down by a 4-3 margin.

But the visitors’ fire power was too much as Team USA scored four third-period goals to the Lumberjacks’ lone goal from Larson.

Larson led Muskegon on the night, earning four points with his two goals while adding a pair of assists.

Muskegon is now 25-17-3-3, and in third place behind second-place Chicago and first-place Dubuque.

The Lumberjacks will have a solid opportunity in the conference race when first-place Dubuque comes to town on Friday and Saturday.
