Kent City Volleyball

The Kent City volleyball team had a strong showing in the WMVOA Tournament on Friday and finished the day 3-1.

The Eagles swept Paw Paw (25-16, 25-12), Northpointe Christian (25-21, 25-22) and Thornapple-Kellogg (25-19, 25-22) in pool play to advance to the gold bracket quarterfinal.

The girls battled but fell in a narrow loss to Northpointe by scores of 21-25 and 21-25.

Leading the way for the Eagles were Lexie Bowers with 35 digs and 23 kills and Madelyn Geers with 44 digs, 21 kills and four blocks.

Susan Rau added 14 kills and made seven blocks, while Denyle Bouter posted three blocks.

Jacee Hoffman racked up some assists with 64 on the day.

Next up for Kent City (4-2) is a trip to Lakeview on Tuesday.

Muskegon Catholic Volleyball

The Muskegon Catholic Central volleyball team competed in the WMVOA Tournament on Friday and split the day 2-2.

The Crusaders took down Crossroads Academy (25-8, 25-13) and Wyoming Lee (25-9, 25-21), but fell to Tri Unity (25-22, 24-26) in pool play.

The wins advanced the Crusaders into the quarterfinal round of the gold bracket where they again faced Tri Unity. It proved to be another obstacle and the Crusaders went under by scores of 25-9, 19-25, and 15-6.

Claire LaVigne had a solid performance with 31 assists, 14 aces and 12 kills, while Natalie Rich threw in 11 aces, 10 kills and eight digs.

Elaina LaGuire made 14 digs and scored eight aces and Lindsey Ladd offered up seven kills and made three blocks.

Also, Kathryn Grevel and Ella Muskovin got in on the day’s production with three and two blocks respectively.

Muskegon Catholic Central (2-2) will be at Oakridge on Tuesday.

Mona Shores Volleyball

TRAVERSE CITY –The Mona Shores volleyball team fired up their season with a sweeping win at the Traverse City West Tournament on Saturday.

The Sailors went a perfect 4-0 on the day to win the gold bracket.

The day opened with wins against Traverse City Central (25-18, 17-25, 15-10) and Byron Center (14-25, 25-20, 15-8) in pool play.

The roll continued into power pool play as the Sailors shut down Traverse City West (14-25, 25-12, 15-13) and Saint Francis (25-22, 25-19) to finish atop their bracket.

Ava Dunn led the day with 21 kills and six blocks followed by Kyann Hellmann who built up 61 assists, four aces and a block.

Mallory Hogston and Chloe Rose also got in on the scoring with five aces a piece. Izzy Sturtevant added 18 digs and Jersey VanderWall made 16 kills. Grace Allen and Ali Trautner had 14 and 12 kills respectively.

Mona Shores will be back to action on Tuesday at Grand Haven.

North Muskegon Volleyball

NORTON SHORES –The North Muskegon volleyball team fell behind in the Warrior Invitational at Western Michigan Christian on Saturday.

The Norse took down Grand Rapids Covenant Christian (25-20, 25-22) but lost to Kalamazoo Christian (21-25, 17-25) and Northpointe Christian (15-25, 20-25) to go 1-2 on the day.

Natalie Pannucci made 28 kills and 26 digs for the Norse, while Joslynne Bogner had seven kills, four aces and three assists. Addie Falkowski added 15 digs and scored three aces.

Also doing their part was Sami Baker with 43 assists and 15 digs and Jaley Schultz with 16 digs. Fia Lindsay threw in nine kills.

North Muskegon (2-3-3) will visit the Falcons of East Kentwood on Thursday.
