SPARTA – The Kent City volleyball team capped off their Saturday with a first-place finish at the Sparta Invitational.

In pool play, the Eagles lost a close one to Greenville, 25-23, 27-26, and played to draws against Comstock Park, 19-25, 26-24, and Shelby 23-25, 25-17.

The Eagles moved on for a rematch with Greenville in the quarterfinals and this time got the win in two sets, 25-17, 25-17. 

The bracket play drive continued with a win over Fremont, 25-19, 25-20, followed by a victory against Martin in the finals, 25-12, 25-17.

Maddie Geers filled the stat sheet with 65 digs, 31 kills, eight blocks and seven aces. Susan-Joy Rau added 17 kills, seven aces and seven blocks. Kaden Perkins had 43 digs and scored eight aces. Jacee Hoffman chipped in 98 assists with 44 digs. Lexie Bowers contributed 50 digs and 39 kills.

Kent City (33-6-4) will be at White Cloud on Wednesday for the Division 3 district semifinal round.
