FREMONT — Shelby pulled out a 3-2 win over Fremont on the Packers’ pitch in a Division 3 district quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon.

The Packers took a quick 1-0 lead just 20 seconds into the match on a goal by Killian Prewitt with Gonzalo Garcia providing the assist.

Halfway through the first half, at the 20-minute mark the Tigers scored to tie the game, 1-1 at the intermission.

Shelby took the lead two minutes into the second half, and made it 3-1 with 15 minutes left in regulation.

Fremont answered with a goal with two minutes remaining with the ball squirting through to Prewitt’s foot to finish the scoring for the game.

The Packers had a 12-5 edge in shots on goal. Ben Mellema made eight saves in goal for Fremont, which ended its season with a 4-15-1 reccord.

Shelby improved to 12-9 on the season, and moves on to play Manistee at Chippewa Field in the district semifinals next Monday.
