MUSKEGON — The visiting Fremont Packers overcame a cold shooting night and escaped with a 29-20 victory over the Orchard View Cardinals on Thursday night.

The Packers shot just 17 percent from the floor, but strong defense kept the Cardinals at bay for much of the evening.

Fremont led 9-4 after one quarter, 18-9 at the half and 25-16 heading into the final quarter.

Jessica Bennett led Fremont (3-6, 1-2) with 10 points and six rebounds. Khaila Noordyk added six points and eight rebounds.

“Points were obviously hard to come by tonight,” Fremont coach Wes Zerlaut said. “I thought we executed very well offensively other than making shots. The girls played hard, moved the ball well and were solid defensively tonight. I was pleased with the perseverance we showed to find a way to still win the game.”

On Friday, Fremont hosts Montague.

Orchard View will travel to Ludington next Tuesday, January 10.
