HESPERIA — A strong start triggered a big night for the Manistee girls’ basketball team Tuesday night.
That performance led to a 64-20 victory over host Hesperia. The victory snapped the Chippewas’ four-game losing streak.
The Chippewas raced to a huge 42-8 halftime lead and kept right on going.
It was 56-14 after three quarters.
“We played well at the start and good defense led to good offense,” said Manistee coach Kenn Kott. “A lot of people saw some quality playing time, and all did quite well. Let’s hope it carries over to Thursday night. Montague will be tough at their place.”
Libby McCarthy led the way for the Chippewas with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jayna Edmondson added 16 points and Mariah Bialik dished out four assists.
Manistee (8-11, 4-6 WMC Lakes) resumes West Michigan Conference Lakes Division play Thursday night at Montague.
Hesperia (1-18, 0-10 WMC Rivers) hosts Hart in a conference game Thursday night.
