GRAND RAPIDS — A disastrous third quarter doomed the Mona Shores Sailors on Monday in the Division 1 district opener against Grand Rapids Union.

Union outscored Shores 21-6 in that pivotal quarter and went on to defeat the Sailors, 75-63. The Red Hawks advance to the 5:30 p.m. game Wednesday against the Muskegon Big Reds. That game is at Coopersville.

Mona Shores came out strong in the opening half and trailed by just three, 30-27. Some 3-pointers in the third quarter helped Union put some distance between itself and Mona Shores.

Jordan Bledsoe led Mona Shores with 16 points and four rebounds. JT Foster added 13 points and five rebounds while Ryan Opsommer added 13 points. Paul Ritter had four assists.

Mona Shores finishes the season with 5-18 record.
