Spring Lake wins Silver Bracket in Wayland volleyball invitational

WAYLAND –The Spring Lake volleyball team took the top spot in the Silver Bracket of the WMVOA tournament on Friday.

The Lakers finished 1-2-1 in pool play with losses to Kent City (18-25, 21-25) and Pewamo-Westphalia (14-25, 13-25). The win came against Newaygo (25-8, 25-12) and the Lakers tied with Thornapple Kellogg (25-6, 21-25).

In the Silver Bracket semifinal, the Lakers got by Covenant Christian (25-16, 25-11) and advanced to upend Kent City in the final (25-23, 25-14).

Kalli Lewkowski had 32 kills with 10 aces and Brooke Bolthouse had 45 digs, 28 kills and eight aces. Kara Constantine chipped in with 77 assists while Ella Gapczynski and Abigail Weis each had four blocks. 

Spring Lake (5-3-1) will compete in the Battle of the Boardwalk on Friday. 

Kent City will host Lakeview in CSAA Conference action on Tuesday.
