LUDINGTON — Lightning struck twice in the Ludington boys soccer team’s West Michigan Conference game with visiting Montague on Wednesday night.

While it never rained when the two teams played Wednesday night at Oriole Field, rumbles of thunder were heard and flashes of lightning seen when halftime arrived.

Because of the lightning, game officials did not let the teams even start the second half and the Orioles recorded a 4-0 victory for their third straight conference win of the season.

The Orioles have won seven straight overall.

“We controlled the whole first half,” said Ludington head coach Kris Anderson. “We struggled, I’d say the first 10 or 15 minutes with finishing scoring opportunities we had. Our last game was Wednesday before the holiday break, we did a little bit of work on Thursday morning and then took a long break after all the games we had.

“So, it was kind of the first game back into that speed of play, so we were a little off in the beginning. Once we started clicking, you could see we were finishing.”

Spencer Holmes accounted for two of the Oriole goals while Aiden Malburg and Evan Erdman each scored one goal. Yebe Boerema assisted on two goals, while Parker Wendt and Keen Patterson each had one.

Gabe Gamez made five saves on five shots.

Ludington improved its record to 8-2 overall on the season and will next travel to Cedar Springs for a non-conference game on Saturday.
