RAVENNA – Shelby volleyball made quick work of Ravenna on Tuesday night, dispatching the Bulldogs, 3-0.

The Tigers were victorious in three sets, nearly giving the Bulldogs double-digit defeats in each match. Shelby won the first set 25-14, the second set 25-16 and the third set 25-10, something Coach Tom Weirich credits to the tough competition the team has faced in Saturday tournaments lately.

“(We) have been playing in some high-level tournaments as of late and not always padding the win column as a result,” Weirich said. “The focus was on always getting better. (That’s) not always an easy sales pitch to the team that bases their level of play on wins and losses.”

Weirich called Tuesday’s win “one of the cleanest, most efficient matches of the young season.” That’s thanks to Shelby junior Navea Gauthier who took it to “a different level” with 32 kills, nine digs and five aces while hitting .509 on the night.

Chipping in important individual performances as well were Audrey Horton with 38 assists and three aces, Brylee Friedman with 13 digs and Hannah Frees with 12 digs. Biloxi Lee tossed in four kills, while Bailey Dickman had two blocks.

Shelby is now 7-9 overall on the year and 3-0 inside the WMC Rivers.
