WYOMING – The Western Michigan Christian cross country teams both claimed second place in Wednesday’s Alliance League jamboree.

The race was at Pinery Park in Wyoming.

In the girls’ race, Grand Rapids West Michigan Aviation captured the title with 29 points. Western Michigan Christian was second with 30, followed by Wyoming Potters House with 90, Wyoming Lee at 108 and Grand River Prep with 120.

Warrior junior Grace Vanderkooi finished first with a time of 20:09.0. She was followed by freshman Leah Sneller, who was fifth at 22:41.8. Grace Folkema (sixth) and Eleanor Kingshott (seventh) both clocked times of 23:14.3. Sofia Blanco, a sophomore, finished 13th in 24:37.2.

“The plan for the day was to get a solid effort in, but leave a little something in the tank, so to speak,” WMC coach Greg Gould said. “They ran incredible last weekend and we did not want to overdo it today with the warmer temps, humidity and a course that was not particularly ‘fast.'”

Grand Rapids West Michigan Aviation had 35 points to claim the boys’ title. WMC was second with 52, followed by Tri-Unity Christian with 80, Muskegon Catholic with 107, Grand River Prep at 113 and Wyoming Potters House with 121.
