HOLLAND – The Grand Haven boys’ tennis team finished fifth in Wednesday’s Division 1 regional meet.

Grand Haven finished with 4 points in the eight-team tournament.

Host Holland West Ottawa finished first with 17 points, followed by Hudsonville with 15, Rockford with 12, Jenison with 5, Grand Haven with 4, Grandville with 2, East Kentwood had 1 and Grand Rapids Union did not score.

The highlight for Grand Haven was the No. 4 doubles team of James Friggins and Simon Sispera, which reached the championship match before falling to the top-seeded team of Hugh Ervine and Luke Koschmann from West Ottawa. The final score was 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-1.

At No. 3 singles, Grand Haven’s Maddox Krugler won his first-round match before losing to No. 2 seeded Sebastian Dozeman (Holland West Ottawa), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the semifinals.

At No. 4 singles, Camden Koster won his opening match then lost in the semifinals to top-seeded Lincoln Troyer from Hudsonville, 6-4, 6-2.
