Grand Haven volleyball has solid day at Beast of the East tournament

PONTIAC – The Grand Haven volleyball team was 3-1 at the Beast of the East tournament on Saturday.

The Bucs won out in pool play, but fell to Rockford in the opening round of bracket play, 25-17, 19-25, 16-18.

The victories in pool play came against Anchor Bay (25-23, 15-20, 15-7), Lakeland (25-16, 23-25, 15-5) and top ranked in Division 3 Monroe St. Mary’s Catholic Central (18-25, 25-22).

Mallory Woiteshek accumulated 40 kills, 23 digs and nine aces, while Izzy Whittaker had 35 kills, 15 digs and five aces. Sara Weber added 76 assists, 12 digs, 10 aces and three kills. Taylor Smaka chipped in 61 digs, nine assists and five aces.

Grand Haven returns to OK Conference-Red action on Wednesday as they travel to Grandville to face Rockford and West Ottawa.
