GRAND RAPIDS – The Mona Shores Sailors scored 43 unanswered points on Friday night in a 43-8 rout of OK-Green foe Grand Rapids Union.

The host Redhawks scored early in the opening quarter and took an 8-0 lead, but that was it for the night.

Two minutes later, Sailor quarterback Jonathan Pittman scored on a 10-yard run and that pulled the visitors to within 8-7. That’s the way the opening quarter ended.

Near the midpoint of the second quarter, Amari Richardson scored on a 25-yard sweep and Pittman ran in the 2-point conversion and Shores led 15-8.

Backup quarterback Hayden Terpstra was pressed into duty when Pittman went down with an injury. Terpstra proceeded to score to make it 22-8.

Later in the quarter, Solomon Robertson recovered a fumble and on the next play, Tomarion Stewart scored on a 73-yard run in a downpour and Shores pushed the lead to 29-8.

Minutes later, Andrew Baker scored on a 73-yard run to make it 36-8.

Steward had a breakout game rushing for the Sailors with 14 carries for 192 yards. Pittman added 11 carries for 62 yards. The Sailors totaled 436 yards of offense, including 432 on the ground.

Stewart scored again with 16 seconds left in the third quarter to cap the scoring for the evening.
